You can choose from the following
species of wood:
- We
purchase our Ponderosa Pine from Oregon and Northern
California regions. Pine is the softest of the woods
that AutumnWOOD uses and has a hardness level of 460.
Pine is quite uniform in texture. The heartwood is yellowish
to light reddish brown and the sapwood is nearly white
to pale yellow. It will have closed knots throughout
the pieces of wood. Pine is often considered for more
rustic uses and can be disressed to look like other
woods.
- Our Alder comes from the northwestern United States
and has a hardness level of 590. Alder naturally has
a light tan or light brown color with yellow or reddish
tinges. Our Knotty Alder will have open knots that are
best colored black - before finishing - with pitch.
These knots tend to make the door look more rustic or
distressed.
- Our
Red Oak comes from the areas around Arkansas and Louisiana.
Oak is the hardest wood that we use, it has a hardness
level of 1,060. The sapwood is white to very light brown
and the heartwood is reddish brown. It has a very straight
grain with a coarse texture. Oak holds well under extreme
conditions. Oak has a very distinct look and has a very
dressy appearance.
- Our Alder comes from the northwestern United States
and has a hardness level of 590. Alder naturally has
a light tan or light brown color with yellow or reddish
tinges. Our Select Alder will not have open knots but
may have closed or small pin knots. Select Alder has
a very contemporary look but can be distressed as needed.
- Our Maple comes from the areas around Arkansas and
Louisiana. Maple is a very hard wood with a hardness
level of 950. The sapwood is commonly white with a slight
reddish-brown tinge, the heartwood is a light reddish
brown that can sometime be very dark. Maple normally
has a straight grain except when the grain forms the
"birds-eye" patterns. Soft maple has a very
dressy appearance and takes finishes well.
