Door Finishing
All of our doors are shipped unfinished and we do not offer any stain options. Look to your finisher or local paint/finish department for the best staining and sealing methods for your locale.

Every door MUST be sealed within ten days of shipping. Care must be taken to insure that each door is sealed on ALL SIX SIDES. Please remember to seal the top, bottom, and inside edge of every door. Sealing the door is the only way that we can insure warranty coverage.

Whatever finish method you choose - oil based, water based - the door must be sealed with a minimum three applications of exterior grade top coat after trimming and hanging. Examples of good top coat sealers are exterior grade lacquers and polyurethanes. We will not warrant any door that has been painted.

The species of wood that you choose will not have any bearing on how well that door will react to weather or exposure conditions. Our butcher block construction method will withstand any condition from the hot arid desert to the arid high elevations - from muggy humid conditions to freezing temperatures. The key is in making sure that the door gets sealed properly.

If your door will be exposed to more than normal direct sunlight or if you plan on using a storm door, we recommend a light stain color.

Please see our Door Maintenance section for other considerations.
